4½ stars. A pinot noir dominant style with light red fruits and berries, then developing further lemon and white stone fruit layers with a lovely weight and balance about it. It's mousse fine, the wine tight and fresh, dry, savoury and refreshing. Goes with: Pate and Terrines.

While it's a new champagne in Australia, Canard Duchene has been operating for 150 years. It has arrived with a substantial range and they are all very good, but Cuvee Leonie is perhaps the most forceful thanks to a hefty dose of Pinot Meunier.
