The Sound of White Pinot Noir captures the richness and density of fruit that this vineyard provides. Cherries, red and dark berry fruits abound with hints of violets and plum. The palate is juicy and powerful, yet retains a silken elegance, framed with oak tannin, leading to a very long, sustained finish. Enjoy with game meats on the back deck.

Tasting Note

Maturation

The wine was then run to French oak barriques (27% new) for maturation and natural malolactic fermentation. After 14 months in oak, the wine was racked to tank and prepped for unfiltered bottling.

Vinification

The Sound of White range was created to celebrate the vineyard, with very little influence from the winemaker. This necessarily entails a very simple process. The fruit was hand-picked and destemmed into an open top fermenter under gravity. The fruit was allowed to cold soak for seven days at which point natural fermentation was obvious. With the ferment active, it was allowed to warm up, rising to a peak of 30 degrees near the end of fermentation, prior to a ten day soak on skins post fermentation.

Region Notes

Sourced from the Eastern hald of our scattered clone, pinot noir block at Sound of White Vineyard. This site is ideally situated being a north facing hillside with heavy, clay-rich soils. In 2016, it was spur pruned and cropped at 6.5T/Ha. Shoot thinning, leaf plucking and green harvesting were all empoloyed to ensure fruit at its optimum when hand harvested on March 23rd 2016

Pretty perfume shows red cherry, raspberry jam, some plummy notes. Fruity as. The palate is ok, juicy but short of depth of flavour and finishes pretty short too. That being said, what’s there is attractive, bright and easy to drink. No quibbles, a decent pinot here, just maybe a bit shy of the intended premium ranging.

A boldly fruited style of pinot. Lots of intensity; juicy dark berry and damson plum. The palate marries ripe tannins with red liquorice, cherry and plum. Generous and fleshy and drinking well now.

Deep red/ purple, with a bouquet of very fresh, youthful, dark berries, kirsch and brandied cherries. The palate is big and bold, fruit-driven and a little simplistic, a tad callow, but it has heaps of potential and would certainly reward cellaring. It's a big, bold wine with plenty of stuffing.
