'Aroha', meaning 'love' in Te Reo Maori is based on two unique parcels of Pinot Noir grapes grown in rocky soils at the Te Muna Road vineyard in Martinborough.

These special parcels, including one of the legendary 'Abel' clone, are selected for 'Aroha' because of their individual expression of the vineyard, complex aromatic profile and sensational savoury, earth-bound texture and length.

Palate

An excellent illustration of subtle power across the palate. Beautifully textured ripe fruit flows seamlessly across the palate with sinew and spice from stem and oak influence. The feel is precise, savoury and long.

Craggy Range's most prestigious pinot noir label is a concentrated mouthful of dark-fleshed plum, dark berry, spicy oak, liquorice, a hint of violet and subtle Christmas cake/dried fruit characters with a sensationally smooth and mouth-filling texture. 5 stars.

The Real Review, 15 August 2018
Craggy Range’s 2016 Aroha Pinot Noir from Martinborough is a distinctive and concentrated wine with a drop-dead gorgeous texture. It’s significantly weightier and more complex than the regular pinot noir label – a serious wine that’s built to last.

Winemaker Matt Stafford has been successful in cracking the code of Craggy's Te Muna site. This is an accomplished wine, built on a foundation of delicious, concentrated, saturating fruit. It has brightness, verve, with fine long tannins and a savoury twist at the back end. Has all the making of a Martinborough classic.

Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, 13 September 2018
Dark, deep, black-hued red colour, near impenetrable, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is full and voluminous with broad and deeply concentrated, refined aromas of ripe, dark-red and black cherry and berry fruit harmoniously layered with whole bunch stalk perfumes and dark herbs, unfolding subtle floral lift with aeration. This is quite complete in expression with beauty and richness. Medium-full bodied, the palate is seamlessly interwoven with flavours of dark-red and black cherries and berry fruit possessing soft vitality. The fruit is complexed by harmoniously melded flavours of dark herbs, dark red florals and subtle whole bunch stalk perfumes. The flavours form a rich and luscious, rounded and concentrated core, and the palate is supported by very fine-grained flowery tannin structure, with integrated acidity. The palate flows smoothly to an elegant, refined finish. This is a beautifully harmonious Pinot Noir with intense flavours of cherries, berries, herbs and complexing whole bunch flavours underlined by refined, seamless tannin structure. Match with poultry, pork, lamb and beef over the next 7-9+ years. 19.5/ 20 Points
