The cool climate regions bring out the best in chardonnays
in my book, and this Craggy Range example from the alluvial
soils of Hawkes Bay on the east coast of New Zealand's
North Island proves my point. Deliciously restrained with
excellent minerality. it reflects judicious winemaking in not
overworking the fruit with too much influence in the vinification.
Instead, the wine has a fine acid backbone with a
symphony of stone fruit and citrus flavours and a long satisfying
finish. It's a sophisticated wine without being too
extroverted, always letting the fruit do the talking. Yum
