Our Gimblett Gravels Merlot is carefully selected from the 22 parcels of Merlot in our Gimblett Gravels vineyard, individually fermented and crafted, then blended with a seasoning of the two Cabernets and Malbec.

The warm, gravelly soils are perfect for the production of Merlot and the moderate heat allows the wine to retain freshness and structure without showing over-ripe characters.

The result is a rich, ripe wine with ample ‘dusty’ tannins and a lush, warm texture similar to other wines made in the area.

This is a real charmer, exhibiting pristine aromas of black/blueberry, dark plum, floral and a hint of cedary oak. The palate is succulent and beautifully weighted with silky texture and excellent intensity, leading to a delicately dry finish backed by plenty of polished tannins. Wonderful harmony and balance.

This Merlot with a dash of Malbec in the blend shows unusual dimension and complexity for the 2011 vintage. Leafy notes give an appetizing edge to cherry and berry fruit, adding up to excellent varietal personality. The palate is rich and fleshy with measured tannins.
