Once known as the "Block 14" Syrah, the Gimblett Gravels Syrah is now a wine made using multiple parcels from the vineyard.

The blending of these different parcels combine to create a wine that is truly distinct and appealing.

The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand approximately 150 years ago. It produces a wine with an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics and a lushness and denseness on the palate combined with fresh and fine natural acidity.

Very full, black-hued, purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. Very attractively lifted bouquet of black berry fruits harmoniously entwined with liquorice, Asian spices, black pepper and violet florals. The finish is very long and sustained. This is a very elegant and refined, harmonious Syrah with an intense bouquet and rich flavours of black fruits, spices and florals.

The benefit of the Gimblett Gravels soil is that it turns the Syrah into something incredibly savoury, giving the typically peppery ripe black fruit a steely minerality and in turn a unique kind of freshness. Silky smooth too, thanks to well integrated oak.

An elegant rendition of the variety, the perfumed bouquet shows blueberry, dark plum, floral and spice aromas. It is focused and finely textured on the palate with lovely fruit weight. Lovely purity. A youthful Syrah showing excellent harmony, and promises to develop gracefully.
