Te Kahu means 'The Cloak' in Te Reo Maori and refers to the mist that envelopes our giant winery in the Tuki Tuki Valley.

Legend has it that this mist was used to protect a mythical Maori maiden from the sun as she visited her lover Te Mata.

The proportions of the blend change most vintages to reflect conditions of the year and to ensure that we meet a certain 'house style'. It is a wine of richness with an abundance of black fruit flavours and a long structured finish complete with dusty tannins of the area.

Gimblett Gravels Te Kahu has a nose of warm plums, crushed black currants and wild blueberries with nuances of cedar, toast, cloves and dried mint. Very drinkable, delicate, black fruit and spice flavours in the mouth supported by crisp acid and chewy tannins.

Medium deep crimson. Intense black cherry, ginger aromas with herb garden, slightly peppery notes. Sweet red plum, black cherry flavours, supple loose knit, slinky tannins and vanilla oak notes. Finishes lacy firm with plenty of sweet fruit persistence.

A terrific Merlot-based red wine blend that has ample olive, tarragon, and other dried herbs and a tart not tannic mid-palate and finish. This may well be the best value red wine in the world.
