If you’re looking for a wine to partner with scallops, white fish or barbecued pork, look no further. This Chardonnay is yet another great example of why the Dog Point boys receive accolades worldwide for their winemaking prowess. It’s packed with bold aromas of white and yellow stone fruits entwined with citrus, nuts and minerals. Couple that with complex smoky, toasty and oak vanillin characters alongside creamy barrel-ferment layers, and you have one very refined Chardonnay.

Vivid, stylish and expressive with layers of sweet cream, orange blossom, nutmeg and mango flavors that are rich, juicy and succulent, revealing plenty of intensity and energy on the long lingering finish. Drink now through 2021.

The 2014 Chardonnay reveals a pretty perfume of honey-drizzled white peaches, orange blossoms, marzipan and ginger with savory wafts of struck match (sulfides) and baking bread. Light to medium-bodied, taut and with a wicked backbone of racy acid, it gives a great intensity of citrus and savory flavors and great length.

Bright, deep, yellow colour with pale gold hues, lighter on edge. This has a full bold and powerful nose with harmoniously packed aromas of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with citrus fruits, nuts and minerals. Complexing smoke, reductive lees and gunflint, toast and oak vanillins emerge to add richness to the core of fruit. Medium-full bodied, the palate features concentrated and intense, fresh white stonefruit and citrus fruit flavours melded with nutty and creamy barrel-ferment elements and complexing mineral and gunflint layers. The fruit and oak sweetness is balanced by fine, crisp acidity and minerality, and the wine flows with tension and linearity to a very long and sustained, fine-textured finish. This is a beautifully refined, tightly concentrated and rich Chardonnay with complexing gunflint and oak detail, and crisp linearity. Match with grilled and roasted seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 5-6 years. 63.5% Mendoza and 36.5% clone 95 fruit from the ‘Dog Point’ vineyard, hand-picked, WBP and barrel-fermented with full solids by indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 15% new French oak, undergoing batonnage and MLF. 19.5/20

This classy, single-vineyard wine is grown on the south side of the Wairau Valley, hand-picked, fermented and matured for 18 to 20 months in French oak barriques (15 to 25 per cent new), and given a full, softening malolactic fermentation. Bright, light lemon/green, the 2014 vintage is a sweet-fruited, bone-dry wine with very youthful, grapefruit-like flavours threaded with fresh acidity, slightly toasty notes, a minerally streak, and excellent vibrancy, delicacy, poise and length. A distinctly cool-climate style, it's well worth cellaring to mid-2017+. 4.5 Stars
