This quintessential Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is right on point with its tropical fruitiness – think guava, melon, lemon and lime, herbal whiffs and talc-like mineral sweetness. It’s pure, racy and packed with juiciness. If you’re after a young, fresh, zesty Sauvignon Blanc with squeaky acidity, you’ve come to the right place. The Dog Point boys have delivered yet again. Matches shell fish (particularly mussels and oysters), white meats and soft cheeses to a tee.

Its not quite as binary as this, but it often feels like it is Dog Point versus Cloudy Bay at the apex of Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough in terms of premium, prestige offering (excluding the artisan types and the barrel fermented gear). I'm more in the Dog Point camp, but you never know... It's hard to fault this release. You could put this in an encyclopedia filed under Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It's quintessential in herbal whiffs, passionfruit and citrus fruitiness, a touch of the gooseberry tang and yet there's an underlying flintiness and talc-like mineral sweetness in perfume too. It's pure, racy, driven and then shows some juiciness in the mouth, to woo you further. Young, fresh feeling, zesty, flinty again, with chalky fringes then squeaky clean acidity to close. Drinkability is so high. I'm not mad, or having a weird day, this is just one of the best examples of its ilk.

The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc has a fragrant nose of elderflower, lavender, lemon grass and fresh herbs with hints of struck match and ground stones. Medium-bodied with a lovely satiny texture and great intensity, it has a lively acid backbone and long savoury finish.

So aromatic with lovely pear and passion fruit. Very floral and open, but with delicate grapefruit, too. The palate is crisp and transparent with lovely lemon, pear and lively grapefruit characters. So exotic, fresh and precise with amazing focus and freshness.
Balance is nigh on perfect.

A wine that is full of excitement, showing an array of grapefruit, lime and lemon citrus as well as gently nettly herbal notes, really fresh. The palate carries juicy white peach and nectarine flavor, very attractive wine, acid holds crunch and balance is nigh on perfect.

Brilliant, light straw-yellow colour, pale edged. This has a full, gently voluminous nose of ripe gooseberry, green stone fruit and tropical fruit aromas entwined with subtle spice elements and complexing flinty minerals. This is fresh and bright, the aromatics growing in breadth and concentration in the glass. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the flavours of green stone fruits and gooseberries are richly sweet and mouth filling. Fresh herbs, spice notes and complex flinty minerals lend a balancing dryness to the flavours. The wine is even and open, but has weight and depth. The mouthfeel grows to show subtle phenolic textures complemented by a suggestion of unctuousness. Vibrant acidity lends liveliness and tension, and carries the wine to a long, smooth, rich and harmonious finish. This is a soft, mouth filling Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and stone fruit flavours complexed by flinty, minerally detail.

This wine offers a clear style contrast to Section 94, Dog Point's complex, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc. Handharvested at several sites in the Wairau Valley, it is lees-aged in tanks but handled without oak. The 2015 vintage (4.5*) was fermented with some use of indigenous yeasts (20 per cent) and lees-aged for two months. Light lemon/green, it has a fresh, ripe, clearly herbaceous bouquet. Mouthfilling, it has strong, pure melon, lime and capsicum flavours, showing excellent delicacy and depth, and a dry (2.9 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. It's already very expressive.

Among the more concentrated and complex versions of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, this offers juicy pear, passion fruit and grapefruit.
