Tasting Note
Aroma

Classic Kreglinger vintage brut, you would swear it was French, and yet it is proudly Tasmanian. It displays seamless depth and elegance, the subtle hints of bakers yeast and French pastry, oyster shell, Smokey quartz, citrus fruits and brioche all integrated and balanced by a subtle flintiness and scented candle wax aromas to the finish.

Palate

A very captivating, long, creamy textured palate; sophisticated and beautifully defined mousse (Cordon de Mousse) forming a necklace of finely strung pearl beads that stem from the glass to provide a lively lift and mineral effervescent crispness. The flavours of citrus fruits and brioche, French pastries with subtle hints of quinines refreshing the palate. The addition of our liqueur de dosage at disgorgement adds further complexity and depth and to an already multi-layered palate. A wine of elegance and seamlessness, maritime and seaside flavours entice your palate for more satisfaction.

Vinification

The grapes are hand-picked in the early morning, in small parcel lots and transported to the nearby winery less than 3km`s away where they were top loaded into our press and delicately pressed within an hour of being picked. Modern computer PLC controlled Bucher airbag presses are used with a modified champagne cycle, to produce around 400-450 litres per tonne of free run juice from the whole bunch pressed grapes. Only the purity of this free run juice (cuvee) component is used in the Vintage Brut. Base wines are fermented slowly in both tank and barrel, where a small percentage was also aged on lees until the tirage blend took place in the new calendar year, followed by the tirage. The tiraged base wine is stored in a temperature controlled cellaring environment to enhance bottle fermentation and style evolution. The wine was disgorged late 2012 after 6 years on Tirage, and followed by some time on cork prior to release.

Of 22 Tasmanian sparkling wines I tasted, this all-pinot noir cuvée really impressed me. Complex, powerful, and loaded with smoky fruit, it has a long, long finish.

Medium to full salmon hue. There is elegance here, gorgeous fragrance of rose petals, Turkish Delight and cherry liqueur, and characterful presence of structure. Subtle brioche complexity and silky creaminess proclaim 9 years on lees, with the finely textural grip of tannin structure. It carries with excellent line and length, concluding with fine-tuned acid tension. (Tyson Stelzer)
