Mencia given a lease of life in rose from the clever winemaking of Corrina Wright. It's a fragrant, rose petal and cranberry scented wine of pretty spice, floral notes and a judicious dusting of peppery spice.

Watermelon, fennel and redcurrant. Clean and light, yet flavoursome enough, a herbal edge playing through the red fruits gives it a pleasant crunchiness, subtle chalky texture, and a brisk fresh lightly peppery finish rounds it off. Nice. Easy to smash.

Bone dry and moreish. I look outside and see blue skies and sunshine - the perfect partner for this. Raspberry, watermelon and red fruit aromas. The back label refers to the ‘white of the watermelon’ and that’s exactly what you taste. And you get that crunch too. A fun and refreshing drink - best I take if outside and soak up that sunshine with a generous glass. Find this.

A new variety on the rose scene, mencia the variety is a native of north-western Spain and neighbouring Portugal and renowned for its fragrance and vibrant fruit and spicy savouries. Crafted here in fashionable pale pink, crisp, pithy and refreshing, there’s no better description possible than winemaker Corrina Wright’s own: “Like eating a watermelon right down to the white bits.”

Pale salmon colour. Succulent and lively with rosehip and redcurrant flavours swishing through the palate. There's a gentle tartness to the finish; it works as a positive, contributing to the wine's crunchy feel. (Campbell Mattinson)
