This release is very good. No holds are barred but it’s neat and compact. Lavish of fruit, strong of oak, firm of tannin, each aspect complementing and enriching the other. Plums, blackberries, coffee-cream and violets. Velvety and grunty at once. Full-bodied red in the best of ways.

Sourced from a high density single site, and barrel-selected to blend, this is classic McLaren Vale. Opaque, garnet red. Big ripe and brooding - full of black fruit, tapenade, tar and cedar. The prominence of oak from 40% new for 18 months, looms large. What it may lack in detail it makes up for in volume. (David Bicknell)
