The 30% carbonic maceration delivers bright, punchy aciditywhich wraps itself around a dark, somewhat intense core of cool, juicy blackberry fruit, peppered with hints of anise and clove. New world Syrah.

Vinification
About half was untouched on stalks for a month prior to being basket pressed to new and old puncheon and old hogsheads, seeing about 15% new oak. The balance was gently foot trod every few days for about 4-8 weeks before seeing the basket press into aged hogheads. Final blend is approx 30% carbon maceration, and 60% whole bunch. No fining.

Cool alpine herbs. Fresh boysenberry before plum and red cherry flavours move in. Spicy tannin, peppery almost, crushed leaves; but only just. It’s essentially fruit driven though savoury elements tap persistently about the edges. This is good. Mid weight at most but offering so much more besides. 92+ points.
