One of the Adelaide Hills' most
respected producers, Shaw +
Smith bought the 20-hectare,
high-altitude Lenswood vineyard
in 2012 to improve the quality of
its already consistently good M3
chardonnay. In 2014 it decided to
keep a small amount of that fruit
separate for its first singlevineyard
chardonnay. It's been
worth the wait. Whole bunch
pressed and barrel fermented
in new and older French
puncheons, it has aromas of
citrus, stone fruits and grilled
cashew, while the palate is flinty,
long and satisfying.

From one of the coolest
vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, and only 180 dozen made. Twenty
percent of the wine went through malolactic fermentation. On the nose,
there are citrus and melon notes, combined with plenty of sulphidic
“funk”. The palate is delicate and finely structured, with a mixture of
white peach, nectarine and grapefruit flavours. The result is a pure,
vibrant chardonnay which proudly displays it cool climate origins. Will
cellar for at least ten years.

This new wine from Shaw + Smith's coolest vineyard (at 500m), is a screamer. A delicate yet powerful wine with precision and intensely focused flavours. Drink now to 12 years with a mixed assortment of sushi.

Adelaide Review, October 2016
In the mouth it is all about precision and focus.
Crisp and detailed with pitch-perfect balance
between fruit and acidity. Again, stone- and
citrus-fruits flow over the tongue, underscored
by soft spice, grilled nuts, almond paste,
oatmeal and light flinty notes. Light tones of
clotted cream and dreamy French oak as the
wine trails off add to the wine's appeal. It is a
lovely thing. Treat yourself.

Juicy green apples and limey acidity cushion pillowy lees and a hint of nougat to the long, linear finish.

This is a very attractive and deceptively powerful chardonnay from a high-altitude site (500m) and one that delivers a latent, smouldering depth on the nose. Toasty, hazelnut-like oak breathes up through flinty complexity and a wealth of white peaches, melon, limes and grapefruit. The palate's super taut, really succulent and powerful, holding this thing tight for start to finish. Electrifying tension to this wine; new heights have been reached. Drink now to 2020+.
