High praise comes in far and wide for this Heathcote Shiraz. It’s typical of the region showing bold mulberry, blood plum and anise aromas alongside a palate that’s broad and savoury with hints of chocolate, strawberries, fresh earthiness and sage. It’s juicy, well balanced and full of fine tannins. Sensational value too! A great partner for veal saltimbocca.

Tasting Note
Aroma

Rich concentrated blackberries and mulberries, earthy with a touch of aniseed. Christmas pudding with custard and cream.

Finally the wine was racked off gross lees and put into barrel to finish malolactic fermentation and mature in a combination of 21% new French and older barriques.

Palate

Sweet blood plums, dark chocolate and caramalised vegetables make this a delicious more-ish wine. The wine has fine silky tannin with lingering sweet fruit characters and good acidity.

Vinification

The grapes for this wine came from a combination of vineyards. They were all kept separately during their fermentation and maturation lives. The machine harvested volume was crushed and destemmed into static fermenters and pumped over three times a day. After approximately ten days of fermentation, during which time the temperature and acid levels were monitored, they were individually pressed to tank using an air bag press.

The hits keep coming. This is widely available and therefore, an excellent 'go to' wine. This is for rich, early-ish consumption but it's very good at it. Flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate and warm asphalt give the palate a hearty, generous aspect, though even with high-ish alcohol it seems neat and controlled. It's not sophisticated but it's polished; once again it's excellent buying/drinking

Rich and ripe, but schmick. Flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate and warm asphalt flood the palate with sweet, hearty flavour but it doesn't forget its manner and at all points seems breathy in its eagerness to please.

Winemaker Notes

As with previous vintages, the grapes come from two main vineyards, one off the deep red Cambrian soil, the other from tougher more gravelly ground. The first gives us rich, chocolatey and earthy flavours whilst the other has more highly fragrant notes with good acid and sweet fruit. The wine that results is our take on Heathcote shiraz.
