Dense, dry and full, this Tempranillo is a delectable blend of blueberries, plums and savoury tannin, with hints of charcoal, coconut, star anise, nutmeg and chocolate around the edges. It’s long and elegant, taking you on a more-ish journey right to the end. In warm weather, try it slightly chilled.

VinificationA combination of two vineyards from Heathcote, grapes were crushed and de-stemmed into a vinimatic fermenter, then spun three times per day. During fermentation the temperature and acid levels were monitored constantly. The wine was pressed to tank using an air bag press then racked off gross lees and transferred to barrel to finish malolactic fermentation. It was left to mature in a combination of new French and older barriques.

Tar & Roses conjures such illusions
as men are made and defeated.
But also the sometimes perplexing,
confectionary smell of Tempranillo.
Gotta love them both. 8.9/10.

Beautifully presented. Raring to go. Cherries and plums with peppercorn notes lifting off. Licks of savoury spice. Chocolatey oak with a meaty element infused. Mid-weight tending towards full-bodied. Really good. Drink 2015 - 2021.

Wine Selector, Autumn 2015
The dynamic winemaking duo of Don
Lewis and Narelle King are one of the
driving forces of the TempraNeo group.
They specialise in alternative varieties
and continually trump tastings. This
Tempranillo is another great example
of their prowess. Vibrantly fresh fruit
with spice harmony, gentle tannins
and deluxe oak persistence. Perfectly
balanced with a velvety texture - a lovely
food wine.

The Key Report, 8-17 January 2015
The faintest hint of charcoal mixed
with earth on the nose, quite
attractive. Savoury and plums on first
taste, it’s a wonderful journey across
the palate and a first class finish.
95 points and great value.
In warm weather its best drunk slightly
chilled.

Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine, 01 July 2015
Funny grape, tempranillo. Unlike many
other red varieties it doesn’t have a
very distinctive aroma - it often lacks
the blackcurrant of cabernet, say, or
the earthy spice of grenache. But when
it’s good - as this one is - it does have
a distinctive mouthfeel. When I put the
slinky purple black wine in my mouth,
the way it sat on my tongue like soft
leather made me immediately think “Ah,
tempranillo. Yum... Now, where’s the
roast lamb and Romesco sauce?”
