This is pretty and drenched in fruit. From a 2 acre block, with 50% whole berries. Open wild ferment and spends 10 months in old oak. Purple red, it’s really quite pretty, with poised blackberry fruit coming in at all angles. It’s maybe lacking a little follow through, safe for late warmth, but the blackberried nature makes for naturally attractive stuff. Best drinking: Ready now to to ten years. 17.7/20.

It is always interesting to see varietal mourvèdre, and this is a very deep, plush and luscious example. Rich blackberry and mulberry flavours with the intensity centred on the mid-palate, and savouriness on the finish. Though there is also refreshing bright acidity which gives the wine a lift. I love the complex tannin network that gently frames the fruit. Don't be afraid to give the wine plenty of air, and use a large glass to release its true character.

A delight to drink really. One of those wines I'd rather happily sip away than ponder the thought of a review. But alas, here we are writing about this beauty we have on our hands. The use of older oak has certainly ensured the fruit bounds along. Attractive purple and blue fruit aromas are woven between aniseed and mulberries. Some earthiness lurches forward with a tap of minerality. Dried herbs raise their hand before long too. Exotic spices and dashes of pepper move along at ease. Drying to finish, almost puckering, before tight acidity wraps up a neat package urging another sip. Superb! Certified organic and biodynamic. Drink now to eight years.

Very deep, youthful red/purple colour with a dusty, earthy, terracotta note to its bouquet - a savouriness that it's tempting to deduce is derived from the ceramic fermenters they use from time to time. It trumps the varietal fruit aromas. The wine has good intensity and concentration, density and texture, with ample powdery, drying tannins and good length. An unusual and worthy style of mataro.
